4d and the Music Project

On Monday 4th and Friday 8th November 4d took part in a music project called “Sing Our Song” with master students from the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. The aim of the project was to create a song together with our pupils.
The music and lyrics for the first two verses and chorus had already been composed and written by the students – the pupils’ task on Monday was to write the lyrics for a third verse and learn the song. Meanwhile some of the class were out and about taking photographs and making short video sequences for use in the accompanying video.
On Friday it was time to record everything. While the instrumentalists were being recorded in the music room (Chris Buda – piano, Luca Fröch – guitar, Klara Pührer – flute, David Borgovan – trumpet), the rest of the pupils sang in the makeshift studio that the students had set up in the multi-purpose meeting room. As there were only five sets of headphones, the pupils were recorded in groups of five. They heard a simple backing track in their headphones which they had to sing along to into the microphones provided. This is not as easy as it sounds, as anyone who has ever recorded a song will tell you… Nevertheless, they did very well and within the allotted three hours everything was done.
The students then mixed the final version and created a video from the short clips that the pupils had filmed. The results can be seen below…
Many thanks to Johannes Winkler for giving us the opportunity to take part in this excellent project and to show off some of the class’s many talents.
