First Aid for the Soul

On Wednesday 19th February, all the fourth-year pupils were invited to a presentation and discussion titled ‘First Aid for the Soul’. Psychotherapist Ulli Haderer, from the Institut fur seelische Gesundheit – Baden bei Wien, volunteered her valuable time to promote psychological welfare and mental health.
The BJHS believes that we can promote psychological well-being among teenagers by creating awareness that it is something they can alter and nurture. Knowing that they can get help when they need it is critical for their well-being during adolescence and for their physical and mental health in adulthood.
Mental health issues like depression, anxiety and conduct disorder were openly discussed. Ms Haderer stated, “According to the Mental Health Organization UK, 70% of children and young people who experience a mental health problem have not had appropriate interventions at a sufficiently early age. The emotional wellbeing of young adults is just as important as their physical health. Good mental health allows young people to develop the resilience to cope with whatever life throws at them and grow into well-rounded, healthy adults.”
